The Tucson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution was chartered on 12 December, 1964.
We are the oldest continuously functioning Chapter in the State. We currently serve all of
Southern Arizona and are the home Society for several current and past state officers, including
the 2009-10 State President, and other national and state committee chairs and members.
As written in the Fall 2007 issue of the SAR Magazine, we sponsored the Arizona Society's dedication
of the SAR memorial plaque in the newly re-built Tucson Presidio, honoring the contribution of the
Spanish soldados to the American Revolution.
Meetings are held monthly on the 3rd Saturday of the month except during summer (June - August) and
when there is a conflicting State meeting (February, April and November). We assemble for breakfast
meetings, from 9 - 11 a.m., and they are held in the beautiful setting of Skyline Country Club, 5200 E.
St. Andrews Drive, in Tucson.
We have interesting speakers on a variety of subjects. Recent topics include Family History Research
in the Revolutionary War era, humorous aspects of Tucson's history, Revolutionary War medicine, the
origins of our "place names," including "Arizona," and medical aspects of the death of George Washington.
Our activities include the JROTC and ROTC awards, a newly revitalized and very active Eagle Scout award
program, Celtic Festival and Presidio Soldado participation, numerous Color Guard activities and especially
the Law Enforcement Awards dinner, which is held in conjunction with our annual meeting in January.
Thanks to compatriot Warren Alter, National Committee Chair, we lead the nation in this!
All SAR members, local or visiting, their wives, friends and all prospective members and guests
are welcome and encouraged to attend our chapter meetings. We would love to have you join
us!
Many of our Nation's Presidents have been members of the SAR.
